Scope: Applies to the configuration and setup of Dash meeting room tablets integrated with Microsoft 365 Enterprise Applications at Makita AU.
1. Overview & Purpose
This KB provides full setup instructions for Dash meeting room tablets, including:
App registration in Microsoft 365 (Azure AD).
Connecting Dash to Microsoft 365 calendars.
Customising display, security, and branding settings.
Managing optional features for booking and check-in.
π‘ Makita Service Desk Tip
A Global Admin is required to perform the Azure App Registration.
Use the Makita brand HEX colour 00909e for a consistent look and feel.
Always record Application ID, Directory ID, Client Secret, and Pairing Code securely for future reference.
Validate test bookings before handing over to Facilities.
2. Prerequisites
Global Admin access to Microsoft 365 / Azure AD.
Access to Dash Admin Guides.
Dash tablet connected to corporate Wi-Fi.

3. Procedure
Step 1 β App Registration in Microsoft 365
Log in to the Azure Portal as a Global Admin.
Navigate to App Registrations > New Registration.
Name the registration (e.g. Dash).
Select Accounts in this organisation only.
Click Register.
Step 2 β Assign API Permissions
In the App Overview, select API Permissions > Add a permission.
Select Microsoft Graph > Application Permissions.

Add the following:
Calendars.ReadWrite
Organization.Read.All
Place.Read.All
User.Read.All
Ensure all are Application type (not Delegated).
Select Grant Admin Consent β confirm with Yes.
Step 3 β Generate Client Secret
Navigate to Certificates & Secrets.
Create New Client Secret β enter name (Dash display devices).
Choose expiry date (recommend maximum).
Record the client secret value immediately β it will not be visible again.
Step 4 β Share Credentials

From the App Overview, note:
Application (Client) ID
Directory (Tenant) ID
Client Secret
Provide these securely to the person configuring the Dash tablet.
Step 5 β Configure Dash Tablet

On the tablet, open Dash > Settings (Represented by a Cog icon).
Select Microsoft 365 > Enterprise Application.

Enter:
Application ID
Directory ID
Client Secret
Click Next.
Dash connects to Microsoft 365 and displays the list of available meeting rooms.
Step 6 β Customisation Options
Calendar & Display
Security
Optional Features
Extend/End meetings early.
Check in to prevent abandoned bookings (auto-cancels if not checked in).
Direct room booking from tablet (Book Now: 15min, 30min, 1hr, 2hr).
Click the 'Find Free Rooms' button for alternative room availability.
Branding
Set background image (match tablet display resolution).
Upload logo (ideal size: 500 x 100px).
Customise colours (use Makita HEX 00909e).
4. Validation / Testing
Confirm that Dash successfully connects to Microsoft 365.
Validate room availability and bookings sync.
Test optional features (booking, check-in).
Confirm branding applied (Makita logo/colour scheme).
5. Troubleshooting
Dash not connecting β confirm Client ID, Tenant ID, Secret entered correctly.
Permissions error β recheck API permissions are all Application-level.
Expired Client Secret β generate a new one in Azure Portal.
Rooms not displaying β confirm they are provisioned in Microsoft 365.
6. Risks / Considerations
Client Secrets expire and must be renewed before the expiry date.
Branding must align with corporate guidelines.
Incorrect app permissions may block calendar sync.
