Hard Resetting iPad

There are times and events that require you to hard reset your iPad. A hard reset is similar to powering off a computer to resolve an issue; however with an iPad, it forces it to disconnect and reconnect with all network connections, memory processes and application paths - almost like a cure-all.

Performing the Hard Reset

Identification

Firstly, we need to identify the physical buttons on the iPad we'll need to use;

  • Home Button
  • Sleep/Wake Button

Procedure

  1. Press and hold down the Wake/Sleep and the Home buttons simultaneously, ignore the red slide "to power off", just keep both buttons holding until the Apple logo appears. This logo is the signal that the hard reset has succeeded. Be patient, some times the hard restart of iPad may take up to 10 - 15 minutes. But such a long restart is a rare case.
  1. Wait until the device turns back on by itself and presents you with the unlock screen
  1. Unlock your iPad and you're done!
